Stratford Intellectual Property is proud to announce that it has been named a partner in CMC Microsystems’ proposed Dual-Use and Emergency Technologies (DUET) initiative — a pan-Canadian effort focused on advancing innovative, made-in-Canada technologies that strengthen national resilience, emergency preparedness, and technological sovereignty.
DUET brings together a network of Canadian SMEs, multinational organizations, academic research teams, and strategic partners to develop cost-effective dual-use technologies designed to address both civilian and military safety and security challenges. The initiative will focus on accelerating innovation in areas critical to Canada’s future, including semiconductor-enabled technologies that support emergency response, infrastructure resilience, and national security.
Since 1983, CMC Microsystems has played a foundational role in supporting Canada’s semiconductor ecosystem, helping emerging companies access the tools, manufacturing agreements, and technical resources required to innovate and scale. DUET represents the next evolution of that work — aligning industry, research, and government priorities to strengthen Canada’s domestic innovation capacity.
As a DUET partner, Stratford Intellectual Property will contribute strategic intellectual property expertise to support organizations participating in the initiative. This includes helping innovators identify, protect, manage, and commercialize valuable IP assets as technologies move from research and development through to field deployment and commercialization.
The DUET initiative is designed to help Canadian organizations develop solutions for real-world emergency and security applications, including technologies supporting first responders, wildfire response, flood mitigation, public safety, and critical infrastructure protection. Through a “Lab to Field” approach, the program aims to subsidize development efforts, support field trials, and help Canadian companies bring mature, manufacturable products to market both domestically and internationally.
The initiative aligns closely with the Government of Canada’s commitment to strengthening sovereign technological capabilities, supply chain resilience, and domestic advanced manufacturing capacity.
“Canada’s innovation ecosystem depends not only on developing breakthrough technologies, but also on ensuring those innovations are strategically protected and positioned for long-term impact,” says Jordan Pynn, Stratford Intellectual Property President. “We are excited to support DUET participants as they build technologies that contribute to a stronger, more resilient Canada.”
Stratford Intellectual Property looks forward to collaborating with CMC Microsystems and DUET partners across Canada to help accelerate innovation, commercialization, and strategic growth within this important national initiative.
